Carl Carlson, CLU
CEO & Founder
Carl brings over 25 years of experience in the financial industry, with 9 years of experience in wealth management and insurance. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Houston, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He is a frequent speaker, speaking on financial topics and issues for today’s pre-retirees and retirees. Carl serves as the Financial Expert for both WIBW CBS in Topeka & WWBT NBC in Richmond. Carl makes it his personal mission to help pre-retirees and retirees maximize their desired income while protecting and preserving their money. Carl and his wife Kay Lyn have been married for over 30 years and have 3 children. He has earned his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and is a current Investment Advisory Representative. Carl is the former CEO, President and Founder of several businesses, including a national software company and a community bank.
Chief Investment Officer
Dan has over 25 years of experience in market analysis and system development for business finance, marketing, data systems and investments. While running his own stock and futures trading business for 5 years, Dan innovated a system to measure the impact that market momentum and trends have on price in the financial markets. He believes these technical indicators give us a picture of the fundamentals and psychology that drive the share price. Prior to devoting his full-time career to investment management, Dan served as the Vice President for an International contracting company, and managed the investments in equipment and materials. He brings a systematic approach to business management, incorporating data management to streamline the day to day tasks of financial services, along with a strong commitment to client service. Just as importantly, Dan brings a passion for stock and future market analysis to his position as CIO and truly enjoys the work involved with trading. He is a graduate of Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Dan and his wife Penny live in Topeka, have been married over 20 years, and have two sons and a daughter. They enjoy family summer vacations to the beach and winter snow skiing in Colorado.
Executive Director, Marketing
Dylan has a marketing career spanning nearly 15 years. Crafting a personalized experience and seamless interaction with clients is the #1 goal Dylan strives for at Carlson Financial. Prior to arriving, Dylan served as the Director of Marketing for OB Sports Management in Denver, Colorado. In his early career, he worked for Fox, NBC and CBS TV Affiliates developing creative marketing campaigns and even starring in his own award-winning TV show for 3 years. Dylan is an 8-time Kansas Association of Broadcasters award winner. He graduated from the University of Kansas. Dylan enjoys the time he spends with his wife Jessica and their two son Brecken & Miken! Both he and his wife graduated from the University of Kansas and thrive on a lifestyle filled with sports and faith. If Dylan isn’t at work he is likely to be traveling the world with his family. Dylan studied abroad in Austria and speaks relatively fluent German as a second language.
Financial Advisor, CPA
Scott is a licensed Certified Public Accountant, and a born and raised Topekan. He’s a fourth-generation Washburn Rural Junior Blue, and a proud Washburn Ichabod. He married his high school sweetheart, Kelsey, in 2015 and considers this to be by far his greatest accomplishment! Kelsey is a middle school teacher in the Washburn Rural district. Topeka is home, and he is excited about the efforts going into making the city an even better place to live and raise a family. He and his wife Kelsey are excited to be part of that effort in whatever small way they can.
After graduating from Washburn University with a degree in Accounting and Finance, Scott began his career in financial and SEC reporting at FHLBank Topeka. He spent the last four years at Westar Energy in the Corporate Finance department. There he gained capital markets experience, coordinating with investment bankers, legal teams, and trustees on debt and equity issuances. For the last year, Scott was responsible for the monthly reporting of current and projected earnings results to the officer team. While he enjoyed his work at Westar, Scott was missing the impact he could have by working with individuals. He’s had a passion for personal finance since college. He is excited to work for Carlson Financial in the Kansas office.
Marissa Van Diest
Financial Advisor, CFP
Marissa is a Certified Financial Planner™ professional who joined the team as an adviser in 2017. She was born and raised the in Pacific Northwest and spent her childhood summers working on a raspberry farm in Washington. After retiring from the berry picker, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from Linfield College, a liberal arts college in the Willamette Valley, Oregon. While in school, Marissa was able to spend a semester studying abroad and taking in the culture of Costa Rica. Shortly after returning, she started as an intern with First Investors Corporation. It was then that she knew she wanted to go into personal finance helping clients prepare for their short- and long-term financial goals. After graduating, Marissa spent some time studying under a Master Sommelier, making food and wine pairing recommendations for customers in the Willamette Valley. She learned a lot about wine, but knew she did not want to stay in that industry. She made the switch into Finance in 2013 and started with Fisher Investments, first as an associate and later as an Investment Counselor. She was working directly with clients and counseling them through the ups and downs of the market, as well as planning and preparing for their goals and life events. Marissa earned her Certified Financial Planner™ Certification in 2016. She recently moved to Virginia Beach from Washington and will be advising in our Virginia Beach office. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, camping, and trying out new recipes in the kitchen.
Client Service Specialist
Anna works directly with clients, handling requests, overseeing new accounts, preparing for client reviews, executing account transfers, beneficiary changes, and new contributions, focusing primarily on annuities. She enjoys meeting, interacting, and establishing great relationships with each client. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, swimming, experimenting in the kitchen and getting together with friends.
Client Service Specialist
Brett is responsible for client services and administrative support, focusing primarily on new accounts, paperwork processing and client reviews. Brett comes to us with an extensive background in customer service. He has worked in the Financial Industry for over 8 years, both in Personal Banking and Investments. A Washburn University Alumnus and Topeka native, Brett enjoys spending time outside of work with his wife Ashlee and their their 3 children.
Client Service Specialist
Annalisa has worked in the financial service industry since 2010. Annalisa is enthusiastic about helping clients with their day-to-day administrative and service-related needs. Her primary responsibilities include new accounts, money movement, account updates, and client meetings. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. Annalisa loves spending time with her husband Tony and their almost one-year old daughter Lorelai. They enjoy playing music together. Annalisa plays harp and Tony plays guitar and hope that someday Lorelai will join them with an instrument of her own. They are excited to begin exploring the Richmond area and the numerous historical sites.
Emily joined the team in January of 2016 as the Project Manager. Emily oversees setup and coordination of all Dinner Events. She provides a welcoming experience for all clients and guests throughout the year during the events and in the office in Richmond and Virginia Beach. She excels at artistic design, making each event a signature Carlson Experience. Emily holds her degree in Psychology from Kansas State University.
Client Service Specialist/Administrative Assistant
Renee serves as an integral member of the Virginia Beach team. Renee works directly with clients, handling requests, overseeing new accounts, preparing for client reviews, executing account transfers, beneficiary changes, and new contributions. She enjoys meeting, interacting, and establishing great relationships with each client. Originally a California native, Renee has developed her love for Virginia as a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. She brings a strong understanding of the area and a desire to make all our clients feel like family. In her spare time, Renee enjoys fitness, baking and soaking up the sun with her large family and three dogs.
Kristen joined the Topeka team in October 2017, after working in young childhood development, she decided to switch career paths and join Carlson Financial. During her high school years is where she gained her passion for customer service and helping others while working in the restaurant industry and volunteering at soup kitchens. Kristen is the first to greet clients and guests in the Topeka Carlson Financial office. On a day-to-day basis you can find Kristen scheduling and coordinating appointments and events, managing documents and performing multifaceted general office support. She was born and raised in Olathe, Kansas and recently moved to Topeka in December 2016 to begin a life with her fiancé who is a native of the area. In her free time, she enjoys traveling back home to see friends & family and she has a passion for cooking and baking. For recreation, Kristen enjoys spending time at Table Rock Lake with her family during the summer, fishing with her grandpa, watching Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, and KU Basketball games. Her goal is to be able to grow with Carlson Financial and eventually go to college to study business.
